McPherson University inducts 61 computing graduates into CPN
McPherson University has inducted 61 graduating students of its College of Computing into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, urging them to uphold professionalism, ethical standards and excellence in their careers.
The induction ceremony, held on Thursday, brought together graduates from the Departments of Computer Science, Cyber Security and Software Engineering as they formally joined Nigeria’s professional computing body.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan congratulated the inductees on the milestone, describing it as a reward for their hard work and resilience, and charged them to uphold the university’s core values of knowledge, integrity and service throughout their professional lives.
Igbasan also highlighted the university’s international partnership with Karabuk University in Türkiye under the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme, saying the collaboration offers opportunities for student and staff exchanges, joint research and knowledge sharing in areas including Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering and Software Engineering.
Earlier, Acting Dean of the College of Computing, Dr. Falade Adesola, described the induction as the graduates’ formal admission into a professional community entrusted with advancing Nigeria’s digital future, while urging them to maintain high ethical standards, protect data privacy, promote cybersecurity and embrace lifelong learning.
Delivering the induction lecture titled “Stepping into the Universe from the University: Navigating Purpose, Professionalism, and Possibilities,” Prof. Olufade F. W. Onifade of the University of Ibadan encouraged the graduates to become innovators, problem-solvers and ethical leaders, stressing that Artificial Intelligence should be embraced responsibly to improve lives and drive societal development.
The ceremony culminated in the formal induction of the 61 graduates into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, signifying their readiness to practise as computing professionals, while parents and guardians were commended for their support throughout the students’ academic journey.
McPherson University said the ceremony reaffirmed its commitment to producing academically sound, professionally competent and globally competitive graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute to national development and the global digital economy.
