National Police Day: Lagos awards N53.3m to families of fallen officers
The Lagos State Police Command has held a security stakeholders’ meeting as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day wherein the families of officers who died during the course of duty were rewarded.
The event featured the presentation of cheques to families of police officers who died in the line of duty, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in maintaining security across the state.
Participants at the meeting included members of the Police Community Relations Committee, the Eminent Persons Forum, community and religious leaders, as well as representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, commended stakeholders for their continued support in crime prevention and control.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the police and the public, noting that such partnerships are essential for effective policing and quick response to emergencies.
The commissioner also highlighted key security concerns in the state, including cultism and electoral violence, and assured that the command would continue to adopt intelligence-driven strategies and technology to tackle crime.
During the event, a total sum of ₦53.3 million was presented to families of fallen officers under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, while the police command reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of officers and their families, noting that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would always be remembered.
