NDC wraps up primaries in Oyo, picks Adebola as gubernatorial candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded its primary elections in Oyo State, producing candidates for the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The primaries were held at the party’s temporary state secretariat in Ibadan and attracted delegates, party leaders and supporters from across the state. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies monitored the exercise.

At the end of the process, Hon. Akim Yussuf Adebola, popularly known as Omoluabi, was pronounced the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Speaking after his emergence, Adebola outlined his vision for Oyo State, promising to prioritise job creation, quality education, agricultural development, industrial growth and youth empowerment if elected governor.

He said the state was endowed with abundant human and natural resources that should be harnessed to drive economic growth and improve the welfare of residents, particularly young people.

The governorship candidate also expressed concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, calling for urgent action by security agencies and relevant authorities to secure their release.

In his remarks, the Oyo State Chairman of the NDC, Princess Oyeronke Bolajoko, commended party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise, describing the successful primaries as a reflection of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent leadership.

The party also produced candidates for the three senatorial districts, with Pastor Mrs. Abigail Olanike Ojekunle emerging for Oyo North, Dr. Paul Oche Adoyi securing the ticket for Oyo South, and Mr. Akeem Salawu emerging as candidate for Oyo Central. Candidates also emerged for the House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly seats, with party leaders expressing confidence that the successful primaries had positioned the NDC for a strong campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
