Democracy Day: Nigeria moving from uncertainty to stability, Tinubu says

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria is transitioning from a period of economic uncertainty to stability, adding that the next phase of his administration’s reforms will focus on accelerating growth and ensuring that the benefits are felt across the country.

Speaking in his Democracy Day address on Friday, Tinubu said ongoing infrastructure projects are connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for enterprise and employment nationwide.

He noted that the National Agricultural Development Fund is set to deploy 10,000 tractors over five years to boost agricultural productivity, while over 1,000 small and medium enterprises have been certified for export. He also disclosed that Nigeria’s non-oil exports grew by 21 per cent in the past year.

Despite these developments, the President acknowledged that many Nigerians are still facing economic hardship, stressing that government efforts remain focused on reducing inflation, expanding food production, creating jobs and improving living standards.

“We are moving from uncertainty to stability. The next phase is about accelerating growth and ensuring the benefits are felt in every home, every community, and every region,” Tinubu said.

He added that democracy must deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives, insisting that “democracy must be felt in the pocket.”

The President also linked grassroots governance to national development, noting that his administration has sought financial autonomy for Nigeria’s 774 local government councils to improve service delivery and accountability.

Tinubu said weak local government administration has contributed to developmental gaps and insecurity in parts of the country, adding that the Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to ensure that all Nigerians benefit from governance and economic reforms.
