NSCDC Kwara handles over 100 gender-related cases in six months

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, handled more than 100 cases involving domestic violence, child abandonment, rape, child molestation and related offences between January and June 2026, recording significant progress in resolving many of them.

Speaking with Western Post on Tuesday, the Head of the Gender Unit, Chief Superintendent of Corps Dada Toyin, said the command secured a life imprisonment sentence against a sexual offender during the period under review.

Toyin said the command recorded 36 cases of domestic violence, noting that 12 of the cases are currently under mediation.

She also disclosed that the Gender Unit resolved 19 child custody disputes, while four cases remain ongoing.

According to her, the command received 38 reports of child abandonment, with six cases successfully resolved.

Toyin further revealed that nine abduction cases were reported, adding that four victims have since been reunited with their families.

On rape, sexual assault and child molestation, she said eight cases are currently before the court.

She commended the officers of the command for their efforts and urged residents of the state to continue reporting cases of gender-based violence and related offences to enable prompt intervention and promote a safer society.
