Oba Abimbola Owoade makes appearance at Coronation Football Competition final

As part of the activities marking the coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, two football clubs in Oyo town, The Way-Up Football Club and Spectrum Football Club, clashed on Thursday in the final match at the Durbar Mini Stadium in Oyo, Oyo State.

Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, who was welcomed by a huge crowd into the stadium, kicked off the match amidst chants and joyous cheers.

In his brief remarks, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade appreciated the people for coming from far and wide to celebrate with him and the people of Oyo town. He also prayed that God would grant them safe journeys during and after the coronation activities.

Earlier, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, had commended the people of Oyo for their love and support for the monarch.

Also speaking, Professor Wande Abimbola, a scholar of Yoruba language and literature and founder of the Ifa Heritage Institute, described the choice of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade as divine, adding that Ifa is very ‘real.’

Meanwhile, during the competition final, The Way-Up Football Club defeated Spectrum Football Club by 2 goals to nil to clinch the trophy, while Alatede Football Club emerged in 3rd place.

The Way-Up Football Club, Spectrum Football Club, and Alatede Football Club were awarded 500,000 Naira, 300,000 Naira, and 200,000 Naira respectively.
