Veteran actors stage play to mark Alaafin’s coronation in Oyo

As part of activities marking the coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, top Nigerian actors on Friday converged on the ancient city of Oyo to stage a theatrical performance.

The event, held at Ajayi Crowther University, featured a stage play written by Gbemi Faleti, titled Command Performance of Aremo Aderoumu. The production starred renowned actors including Olayiwola Razaq, popularly known as Ojopagogo; Taiwo Ibikunle; Babatunde Bamgbode; Gbemisola Faleti; and others.

The play highlighted key historical events of the Oyo Kingdom from the era of Oranyan to the present day, capturing the rich cultural heritage and evolution of the monarchy.

Prominent dignitaries in attendance included the Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun; Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi; and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Kunle Ogunmola.

Others present were the Alaafin’s Chief of Staff, Barr. Rotimi; and the Vice Chancellor of Atiba University, Professor Sunday Olawale Okeniyi, among others.

Meanwhile, preparations have reached their peak for the official coronation of Oba Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, scheduled to hold tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Oba Owoade has called on all indigenes and residents of the ancient city to celebrate the occasion in peace, unity, and moderation.
