Oluremi Tinubu calls for safer schools, protection of children
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for stronger efforts to protect schools, teachers and students from attacks, saying the safety of education is critical to securing the future of Nigerian children.
Mrs Tinubu made the call in a message to mark the 2026 International Day to Protect Education from Attack, observed on September 9, with the theme, Education Can Survive Attack.
The First Lady, who described herself as an educationist, said classrooms provide an environment where children discover their potential, develop their aspirations and build hope for the future.
She warned that attacks targeting schools, teachers or students threaten not only education but also the future of affected communities.
“Every attack on a school, teacher, or student threatens the future of our children and communities,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu urged stakeholders to work together to secure schools, support teachers and protect every child’s right to education.
She added that protecting education was essential to preserving hope and securing the collective future of the country.
