The Ekiti State Government has commenced the rehabilitation and upgrading of the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Emure-Ise-Orun, with 19 projects currently underway to improve facilities for corps members.

The intervention covers accommodation, security and other essential facilities aimed at providing a more conducive environment for corps members and officials during the orientation programme.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, disclosed this Wednesday during an inspection of the ongoing projects, saying the initiative reflected Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to youth development.

Adedayo expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work and commended the contractors for their commitment to completing the projects within the agreed timeline.

The projects include the renovation of the gatehouse, registration centre, five male hostels and seven female hostels, as well as the dining hall, kitchen, stores and perimeter fence.

In addition, work is being carried out on the lodge of the NYSC state coordinator and other structures within the camp, while solar-powered lighting systems will be installed to improve visibility at night and strengthen security.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Olubunmi Talabi, said the projects were being executed simultaneously under the supervision of his bureau, with local contractors and artisans engaged in line with the state’s local content policy.

Reacting, the NYSC State Coordinator, Adeola Ige, welcomed the intervention, recalling the difficulties previously experienced at the facility and expressing optimism that the rehabilitation, expected to be completed within two months, would significantly improve conditions for corps members undergoing their orientation programme in Ekiti.
