Oluremi Tinubu empowers 2,500 women across South-East

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has announced a N250 million empowerment programme for 2,500 women across the five states of the South-East.

The initiative, implemented under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in partnership with the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is designed to support women-owned businesses and improve household incomes.

Mrs Tinubu announced the programme on Wednesday in Owerri, Imo State, during the flag-off of the distribution of empowerment equipment to beneficiaries from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

Under the scheme, 500 women in each of the five states will receive equipment to establish or expand businesses.

The items include deep chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators and industrial grinding machines.

The First Lady said the intervention was aimed at strengthening families by improving the economic capacity of women.

“Today, 500 preselected women beneficiaries in each state in the South-East will be provided with empowerment items such as deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to support them in starting or growing their existing businesses,” she said.

According to her, the programme, when fully implemented nationwide, would benefit 18,500 women, with 500 beneficiaries selected from each state and the Federal Capital Territory.
