The Chairman of the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Security and Community Development, Akoni Ifabiyi Olatunji, has urged Nigerians to unite and remain vigilant against kidnapping, terrorism and other security threats.
Ifabiyi, who represents Odigbo Constituency 1, made the call in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Sam Ajide, on Tuesday in Akure, while congratulating his constituents on the new month.
The lawmaker said tackling insecurity should not be left entirely to security agencies, urging citizens to play their part by remaining alert and providing useful information to the authorities.
He advised residents to promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security agencies, noting that timely intelligence could help prevent attacks, disrupt criminal operations and save lives.
Similarly, Ifabiyi cautioned Nigerians against inflammatory rhetoric that could deepen ethnic, religious and political divisions, stressing that national cohesion was essential to combating terrorism and other violent crimes.
He also urged citizens to reject attempts to exploit insecurity to divide the country, while calling for greater support for communities and families affected by kidnapping and other violent attacks.
The lawmaker said victims of insecurity should not be abandoned, stressing that they deserved empathy, protection and meaningful support from the wider Nigerian community.
Ifabiyi further urged Nigerians to demand accountability from leaders at all levels, saying collective responsibility, national unity and a commitment to peace were essential to building a safer and more secure society.
