Ondo seeks Igbira community’s support in fight against crime

The Ondo State Government has urged members of the Igbira community in Owo Local Government Area to support security agencies in tackling crime and safeguarding lives and property.

The charge was conveyed by the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, during a meeting with the Asiwaju of Igbira in Owo, Chief Isa Ahmed, and other community leaders at the corps headquarters in Akure.

Adeleye said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting the peace in Owo, warning that individuals involved in criminal activities would be apprehended and prosecuted.

He noted that while the Igbira people remain an integral part of the Owo community, they must not allow criminal elements to exploit their presence in the area as a shield for unlawful acts.

The Amotekun commander therefore directed that all Igbira residents in Owo should be properly documented through the office of the Asiwaju of Igbira, adding that community leaders would be expected to assist security agencies in monitoring and profiling their members.

He also said Igbira hunters residing in the area must operate under the supervision of the community leadership and collaborate with the state’s security structure to enhance public safety.

Responding, the Asiwaju of Igbira commended the state government for its commitment to security and peaceful coexistence, assuring authorities that any member of the community found engaging in criminal activities would be handed over for prosecution.

The community leader pledged continued cooperation with security agencies to rid Owo of criminal elements, while the Secretary of the Igbira Community, Isiaka Yahaya, urged residents and landlords to support profiling efforts by reporting suspicious persons and notifying community leaders about new tenants.
