Osun APC rejects court verdict, says chairmen remain legitimate pending appeal

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, which dismissed a suit filed by reinstated local government chairmen and councillors elected on October 15, 2022.
In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC said the chairmen and councillors would continue to discharge their constitutional duties while pursuing legal redress against the judgment.
He said, “The reinstated chairmen and councillors shall put to test the judgment at the appropriate venue and, until such constitutional rights are exhaustively exercised, they will continue to discharge their duties in office.”
According to Olabisi, the suit, marked FHC/OS/CS/147/2025, commenced in September 2025, and following a number of appeals arising from interlocutory rulings, the Court of Appeal in Abuja heard the matter on June 3, 2026, and adjourned further hearing to September 28, 2026.
The party argued that despite the pendency of the appeals and a motion seeking a stay of proceedings before the lower court, the Federal High Court in Osogbo proceeded to deliver judgment on June 15, 2026, dismissing the suit.
According to the APC, the trial court held that the tenure of the reinstated elected officers of the local government councils ended in October 2025.
The party, however, contended that the implication of the judgment was that the local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission on February 22, 2025, and the swearing-in of officials on February 23, 2025, were rendered a nullity.
The APC called on law enforcement agencies to caution members of the Accord Party against actions capable of triggering crisis over the development, urging its members and supporters to remain steadfast and assuring them that all legal avenues would be pursued to ensure continuity of governance at the grassroots level.
