Oyebamiji queries N99.5bn Ede Airport contract, faults Adeleke’s infrastructure priorities

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has criticised the state government’s handling of major infrastructure projects, questioning the award of the N99.5 billion Ede Airport project to a contractor he claimed lacks the required experience in civil engineering.
Oyebamiji, in a statement issued on Friday by the head of the media and publicity committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Oluremi Omowaiye, said projects of such magnitude should be executed by firms with proven technical expertise and capacity.
He argued that any government committed to delivering quality and lasting infrastructure must prioritise competence, professionalism and value for money in the award of public contracts.
“A government with a vision of delivering durable and transformative infrastructure will not entrust multi-billion-naira road projects to fertiliser distribution suppliers, cybercafé operators and other unqualified cronies the way the current government in Osun has done. The people of Osun deserve quality infrastructure built by competent hands,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate also faulted the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke over what he described as poor utilisation of increased revenues accruing to the state, alleging that several campaign promises remained unfulfilled despite improved earnings.
He further claimed that more than 1,500 teachers and over 500 health workers disengaged by the present administration had not been replaced, a situation he said had adversely affected education and healthcare delivery across the state.
Oyebamiji also referenced allegations of payroll irregularities reportedly uncovered by a consulting firm, describing the development as embarrassing and calling for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
While marking Democracy Day, he commended President Bola Tinubu for his role in the pro-democracy struggle and pledged that, if elected governor, his administration would prioritise education, infrastructure renewal, job creation, technology-driven security and the revival of the Aviation City project in Ido-Osun.
