PDP to Oyebamiji: Explain sale of Osun bank before eyeing Governorship

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the Managing Director/CEO of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, to explain his alleged role in the sale of Osun Living Trust Bank to a Ponzi scheme, as recently described by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement signed by its Council on Public Communications and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the PDP alleged that Oyebamiji presided over the controversial transaction during his tenure as Osun State Commissioner for Finance. The party insisted that he must account for his actions before seeking any higher political office.
WESTERN POST had reported that Oyebamiji, on Tuesday, formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP, however, emphasised:
“Before Mr. Oyebamiji contests for the Osun governorship, we dare him to explain his role in the corruption-ridden sale of Osun Living Trust Bank to a Ponzi scheme. He was the Commissioner for Finance who oversaw the sale. A major state asset was disposed of under questionable circumstances on behalf of the Osun people. We demand explanations.”
The ruling party in the state also accused Oyebamiji of destabilising a traditional event in Ijesaland by allegedly importing “lorry loads of thugs” to the coronation ceremony of the Owa Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, despite warnings from the palace.
“We also ask Mr. Oyebamiji why he disobeyed the directives of the Owa Adimula by importing thugs who nearly disrupted the coronation. Has he apologised to the Ijesa people and the Owa Adimula for politicising the traditional event despite the monarch’s public warning?” the statement added.
“The Osun APC attacked the new monarch when he was first announced. Some APC members even dragged him to court. It is shameful that Oyebamiji’s supporters stormed the palace with imported thugs from Lagos.”
The PDP concluded by calling on Oyebamiji to respond to these allegations and stated that more questions regarding his stewardship as Commissioner for Finance and his current role as head of NIWA would follow.
