Police nab man for stealing safety installations on Third Mainland Bridge
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected vandal on the Third Mainland Bridge for tampering with road safety installations.
The suspect, identified as Dogara John, was apprehended on April 6, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. while allegedly removing reflective road studs installed on the bridge.
According to the police, the 18-year-old was caught in the act, prompting immediate intervention by operatives on patrol in the area.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 reflective road studs in his possession, which are critical for guiding motorists, especially at night and during adverse weather conditions.
Furthermore, the police noted that the removal of such installations poses serious risks to road users and could lead to accidents on the busy bridge.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and destruction of public infrastructure.
He warned that such acts endanger lives and undermine efforts to maintain safety and order across Lagos State.
The command further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public facilities through designated emergency lines to support ongoing security efforts.
