Police recover stolen Lexus SUV, arrest two suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle allegedly stolen at gunpoint in Akure, in what the command described as a major breakthrough in its anti-crime operations.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the suspects, Adeoba Precious, 31, and Oluwapelumi Babayemi, 30, were arrested following intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Akure Area Command. He added that the suspects had allegedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery.

According to the police, the robbery occurred on July 23, 2026, at about 8:40 p.m. at Advic Resort, Alagbaka, Akure, where armed men reportedly attacked a victim, Yemi Adeyemi, and made away with his Lexus RX350 SUV. The victim was said to have reported the incident the following day, prompting detectives to launch an intensive investigation.

The statement said the stolen vehicle was later recovered intact after it was abandoned on the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo Campus axis. The vehicle has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.

The police added that follow-up operations led to the arrest of the two suspects on July 25, while a search of their hideouts allegedly produced a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jackknife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for what he described as their professionalism and swift response, noting that the successful operation reflected the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention.

Ohagwu assured residents that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate and dismantle criminal networks involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support the police in tackling insecurity across the state.
