Police urge parties to suspend political activities in Osun’s Oriade LGA

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

‎The Osun State Police Command has advised all political parties to suspend planned rallies, campaigns, processions and other political activities scheduled to hold in Oriade Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

‎Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan urged political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to postpone all political engagements slated for June 10 to a later date.

‎In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said the measure was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order, maintaining public peace and protecting lives and property.

‎It explained that the decision followed the non-cooperative attitude of some parties, adding that efforts by the command to foster peace had ended in a deadlock.

‎According to the statement, a peace meeting earlier scheduled by the commissioner of police with the concerned political parties could not hold, making the advisory imperative.

‎”All political parties, candidates, supporters, followers and members of the public are hereby admonished to take note and comply in the interest of peace,” it stated.

‎The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment across the state and called on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
