ADC’s Adegoke advocates LG autonomy, improved funding for traditional institutions in Oyo

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has reaffirmed his commitment to deepening grassroots governance through full local government autonomy if elected governor in 2027.
Adegoke made the pledge during a visit to the Oyo Federal Constituency, where he said the empowerment of local councils remains a key pillar of his development agenda for the state. He also promised to improve funding for traditional institutions and ensure the prompt remittance of their statutory allocations.
“Strengthening both local governments and traditional authorities would enhance governance and accelerate development at the community level,” the candidate said.
In his address, Adegoke emphasized that local government autonomy is the most practical way to bring government closer to the people. He argued that local councils are better positioned to identify and address the immediate needs of their communities, particularly in the areas of rural infrastructure and basic social services.
He equally maintained that granting financial independence and administrative authority to local governments would significantly accelerate development across Oyo State.
Citing rural road grading and maintenance as examples of projects that could be handled more effectively by local councils,
Adegoke stressed the importance of traditional institutions, noting that traditional rulers play critical roles in maintaining peace, resolving disputes and fostering community development.
The ADC flag bearer went further to assure residents that his administration would be guided by fairness, equity and justice. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, Adegoke pledged prudent management of public resources, major infrastructural investments and inclusive policies aimed at improving service delivery, boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life across Oyo State.
During the visit, party leaders and members praised Adegoke’s leadership qualities and described him as a credible candidate capable of providing effective governance. They also expressed confidence in the ADC’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections and pledged their continued support for his candidacy.
