Tinubu inaugurates Abuja expressway, vows completion of inherited projects

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) in Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing both ongoing and inherited infrastructure projects across the country.

Speaking through Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, Tinubu described the road project as a key step toward improving transportation, boosting economic activity, and enhancing living standards in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said the completion of the expressway demonstrated his government’s resolve to avoid abandoned projects and ensure continuity in public infrastructure delivery.

According to him, road development remains central to unlocking urban and economic potential, creating jobs, and easing daily movement for residents and businesses.

Tinubu noted that his administration had progressively advanced the OSEX project since the first phase, which runs from the Villa Roundabout to Ring Road I, was inaugurated in 2024. He added that the delivery of a 15-kilometre service carriageway in 2025 helped pave the way for the latest completed section.

The president said the new stretch of the expressway would ease traffic congestion, reduce transport costs, and strengthen connectivity between Apo and Wasa districts.

He also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what he called effective and result-driven leadership in executing infrastructure projects in Abuja.

“The transformation we are seeing in the FCT reflects focused leadership and determination,” Tinubu said, adding that the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” was being reflected in ongoing infrastructure delivery.

Earlier, Wike said the project was completed through collaboration between the government and the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, noting that he repeatedly monitored progress on-site and pushed for timely delivery ahead of the administration’s third anniversary.
