SDP’s Mustapha hails suspect’s arrest at Osun SSG’s residence, faults Accord reaction

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Osun State, Salawu-Adeniyi Mustapha, has commended the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, over the arrest of a wanted murder suspect at the residence of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye.
In a statement on Thursday, Mustapha praised the police for what he described as professionalism and bravery, saying the operation showed that the law respects neither status nor political affiliation.
“We salute the clear-headed bravery of the Osun State Police Command. By executing this operation successfully, the police have reaffirmed the confidence of the people in the rule of law,” he said.
The SDP candidate, however, faulted the ruling Accord Party’s reaction, describing its attempts to downplay the incident as laughable.
According to him, no one, regardless of status, should harbour a wanted suspect, adding that doing so would amount to obstructing the course of justice.
Mustapha also alleged that the ruling party’s criticism of the police stemmed from frustration over the command’s handling of the operation.
He reaffirmed the SDP’s commitment to a peaceful, free and fair governorship election devoid of violence, thuggery and brigandage.
