Shettima calls for unity, sacrifice as Nigerians mark Eid al-Adha

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence and collective sacrifice as the country marks Eid al-Adha, urging citizens to draw inspiration from its spiritual lessons.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in celebration of the Eid festival, Shettima said the festival offers a timely reminder of values needed for national renewal and development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood,” the Vice President said.
He added: “What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity.”
Shettima stressed that Nigeria’s development depends on national cohesion, warning that progress cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of division and mistrust.
“Our nation is undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a more stable and prosperous future for generations to come,” he said, noting that ongoing reforms, though difficult, are necessary.
He also urged Nigerians to support the administration’s reform agenda, saying shared sacrifice is essential to addressing insecurity, poverty and economic challenges.
Reassuring citizens, he said the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and stability across the country, while commending the efforts of security agencies.
“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come. Nigeria is steadily advancing on the path of peace, recovery and sustainable development,” he said.
