Shettima hails Tinubu’s digital identity reforms, says Nigeria’s transformation unrivalled

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday hailed the Tinubu administration’s reforms in Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem, describing the country’s ongoing digital transformation as “unrivalled.”

Shettima made the remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) led by its Director-General, Engr. Abisoye Odusote.

He attributed the progress to reforms being implemented by the commission, particularly following the enactment of the NIMC Act 2026, which he said would accelerate the establishment of a sovereign Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Nigeria.

According to the Vice President, the reforms will also drive the transition from paper-based public administration to secure digital governance.

Commending the NIMC Director-General, Shettima said, “Your leadership and impact on NIMC’s transformation from a database custodian to Nigeria’s foundational digital authority within such a short period is unprecedented, rare and worthy of commendation.”

He urged the commission’s management to support the ongoing reforms by embracing more technology-driven models to advance the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Shettima added, “Across all sectors, this administration is taking bold steps and making courageous decisions that will positively impact Nigerians in education, healthcare delivery, financial inclusion and secure digital governance.”

Earlier, Odusote congratulated President Bola Tinubu on signing the NIMC Act 2026 into law, describing it as a major milestone for Nigeria’s identity ecosystem.
