Three suspected cultists arraigned as police recover firearms in Lagos

Three suspected cultists have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, leading to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons.
The command said the operation followed credible information from members of the public about the activities of suspected cultists in the Imota area, prompting operatives to storm the location.
The suspects were identified as Jelili Adeyemo, 37, who police described as the alleged armourer of the group, Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.
Police said exhibits recovered during the operation included one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses and other items.
According to the command, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity, while the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who is currently at large.
The police said the three suspects have been arraigned and remanded, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime-fighting efforts.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said members of the public should report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines as the crackdown on criminal groups continues.
