President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Engr. Ramat, 39, is an accomplished electrical engineer and administrator who holds a PhD in Strategic Management, alongside other professional qualifications. His nomination is part of President Tinubu’s continued efforts to strengthen the leadership of key regulatory agencies in the power sector.

In addition to Ramat’s nomination, the President has also put forward the names of Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner of Finance and Management Services at NERC.

All three appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nominations were announced in a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

To prevent any leadership vacuum in the critical regulatory body, President Tinubu has directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending the outcome of his Senate screening, in accordance with statutory provisions.

The President charged the new appointees to bring their expertise and experience to bear in fulfilling their responsibilities, and to work diligently in line with his administration’s vision to transform the power sector.
