Tinubu tells Catholic bishops security reforms will defeat terrorism

….says prosperity is on the horizon

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday assured the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that his administration’s ongoing restructuring of the country’s security architecture would lead to victory over terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the CBCN at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu said security institutions were being repositioned for greater efficiency through improved intelligence gathering, restructuring of security operations, enhanced logistics and better welfare for frontline personnel.

The delegation was led by the President of the CBCN and Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, and included 19 senior Catholic bishops.

Tinubu said his government had approved the expansion of the armed forces, the acquisition of more military equipment and the construction of new barracks to strengthen the fight against insecurity.

“We will defeat terrorism,” the President said, urging religious leaders to support government efforts by condemning violent attacks and encouraging national unity.

“We don’t have another country but here – this Nigeria. In our complexity and diversity, we shall thrive, live, rejoice and be good to all and humanity,” he said.

On the economy, Tinubu said Nigeria had been stabilised and was now on a path towards prosperity, insisting that the country had been rescued from the economic crisis it faced when he assumed office.

“The country has been placed on a sound footing. The economy has recovered. The alarm for bankruptcy and the dark tunnel of uncertainty that we had when I came in has been changed,” he said.
