Tiwa Savage hails Don Jazzy’s brilliance in new interview

Popular Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has praised Don Jazzy’s exceptional talent for creating hit songs in a recent interview.
Speaking with NotJustOkay, the singer revealed that she initially thought “Dorobucci,” one of Mavin Records’ biggest hits, was a “crap song” when she first heard Don Jazzy playing it repeatedly during her wedding trip to Dubai.
“Don’t know if people know this, but ‘Dorobucci’—I had Don Jazzy playing that in the hotel when we were in Dubai for my wedding. I didn’t want to tell him, but I thought it was such a crap song,” she said.
Tiwa explained that Don Jazzy kept playing the song “over and over again,” not realizing he was producing it for the Mavin collective. After the wedding, he insisted she return to Nigeria instead of going on her honeymoon to record the track.
According to her, when she eventually returned and heard the full version in the studio, she was stunned. “I got back to Nigeria, got to the studio, and heard the song he’d been playing in Dubai. I was flabbergasted,” she said.
She admitted feeling upset because she had also disliked another of her hit songs, “Eminado,” at first. “I was so angry because this had happened with ‘Eminado’ too—I didn’t like it at first,” she added.
Tiwa noted that she was the last person to record her verse on “Dorobucci” because she wasn’t convinced of its potential. “I was the last to record my verse; I was just looking at everyone in the studio like, do you guys really like this?” she recalled.
Despite her doubts, the song became a massive success. “It turned out phenomenal. So, shout-out as always to Don Jazzy,” Tiwa concluded.
