Umahi among my outstanding, hardworking ministers, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has described the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, as one of the most outstanding and hardworking members of his cabinet, praising his commitment to delivering durable road infrastructure across the country.
The President made the remark in a birthday message to Umahi on Saturday, commending the minister’s dedication to duty and hands-on approach to supervising road projects nationwide.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Umahi had distinguished himself through his passion for the job and unwavering commitment to quality infrastructure.
“Engineer Umahi has been one of my outstanding, hardworking ministers—passionate about the job and delivering durable roads and bridges that will last for about a century,” the President said.
Tinubu added that, unlike many public officials, Umahi regularly visits project sites across the country to personally monitor construction and ensure compliance with approved standards.
“As a minister, he does not just sit in his office or rely on reports from subordinates; he is constantly on the road, personally monitoring construction work nationwide to ensure compliance with specifications and approvals,” he said.
The President also urged the minister to accelerate the construction, rehabilitation and completion of road projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying improved infrastructure is essential to enhancing the quality of life of Nigerians and stimulating economic growth.
Before joining the Federal Executive Council, Umahi served as governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 and later represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the Senate.
