Wike defends Tinubu’s reforms, says infrastructure projects show strong leadership
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu, saying ongoing infrastructure investments across the country are beginning to yield measurable results.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday during the 36th convocation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt, where he delivered a lecture titled “Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for Future Leaders.”
He said infrastructure development remains a key indicator of effective governance, adding that current projects reflect the administration’s commitment to national transformation.
“What the present moment offers is a rare and defining possibility, a window in which purposeful leadership can begin, in earnest, to narrow the enduring gap between Nigeria’s vast potential and its historically uneven performance,” Wike said.
He added that President Bola Tinubu has shown “the courage to confront difficult choices” and the capacity to deploy infrastructure as a tool for economic transformation.
Wike said key sectors such as roads, rail, housing, aviation, power, and digital infrastructure are central to the administration’s development strategy.
He noted that while some projects were inherited from previous governments, they are being accelerated and integrated into a broader national development framework.
Among projects cited were the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano road, the East–West road, and access roads to the Second Niger Bridge.
