Zulum urges resilience, peace, security during Eid-al-Fitr in Borno

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum on Friday congratulated Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, while urging residents to carry forward the spiritual lessons of the holy month to rebuild a secure and prosperous society.
In a statement, Governor Zulum described Ramadan as a time for deepening faith, reflection, and charitable giving. He highlighted that his administration reached over 300,000 vulnerable persons across the 27 local government areas with food and essential items, calling this year’s Ramadan “unique” due to the unprecedented scope of outreach.
Acknowledging the continued security challenges in the state, Zulum expressed grief over the recent resurgence of attacks, including the triple suicide bombings in Maiduguri on March 9, which claimed 28 lives and injured more than 100 others. He praised the courage and resilience of the people of Borno in the face of ongoing threats from Boko Haram.
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for sending Vice President Kashim Shettima to console the victims and thanked the Service Chiefs for reviewing and strengthening strategies to end the insurgency. He also lauded the military for its ongoing operations in Sambisa Forest and called for similar coordinated offensives in the Mandara Mountains, Lake Chad region, and other insurgent hideouts.
Zulum reassured residents that his administration will continue supporting security agencies and volunteer forces in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism efforts. He urged citizens to sustain personal and communal safety initiatives, heed warnings from security agencies, avoid crowded areas without security presence, and remain vigilant against suspicious activities.
The governor also assured that Eid-el-Fitr prayer grounds would be heavily secured to allow Muslims to celebrate the festival without fear, emphasizing that peace and development in Borno depend on both community resilience and coordinated security efforts.
He also encouraged the people to maintain their remarkable resilience, emphasising that unity, vigilance, and cooperation with security agencies are key to overcoming the long-standing challenges posed by insurgency in the state.
