By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) has resigned as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to fully pursue his 2026 governorship ambition in Osun State.
In a statement issued by the Coordinator of AMBO Media Fronts, Adebayo Adedeji, the former NIWA chief expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting him the opportunity to serve Nigeria, and to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, whose recommendation secured his appointment in October 2023.
Oyebamiji acknowledged the unwavering support from both leaders throughout his two-year stewardship, describing the experience as a privilege that allowed him to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The statement noted that during his time as head of NIWA, Oyebamiji demonstrated exceptional leadership, deploying nearly 40 years of private and public-sector experience to reposition the waterways authority for optimal performance.
It added that within two years, his leadership worked assiduously to reduce deaths and accidents on Nigeria’s inland waterways by more than 70 per cent, elevated safety awareness campaigns to unprecedented levels, and improved staff welfare in ways widely acknowledged and commended.
Oyebamiji reaffirmed his commitment to offering purposeful leadership and excellent service to the people of Osun State as the state moves toward the 2026 governorship election.
“For the 2026 governorship contest, AMBO places his trust in God Almighty, in the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to nominate him as the party’s flag-bearer, and ultimately in the good people of Osun State to support his aspiration to serve them with integrity, competence and dedication,” the statement added.
