US President Donald Trump resolves to litigate Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah

US President Donald Trump has condemned the annual Grammy Awards and threatened to sue its host, Trevor Noah, following a controversial joke made about him during the event. Trump described the show as “the worst and virtually unwatchable” shortly after the ceremony ended.

Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social page after the 68th Grammy Awards, accusing Noah of making false statements while hosting the event. He called the comedian “a total loser” and warned that legal action could follow.

During his monologue at the awards ceremony, Noah joked that the Song of the Year award was coveted by artistes “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland”. He added that “since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton”, referring to late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump denied the insinuation, stating that although he had once known Epstein, they fell out around 2004. He insisted that he had never visited Epstein’s private island and had never previously been accused of doing so.

In a strongly worded post, Trump accused Noah of making “false and defamatory statements”, insisting that claims linking him to Epstein’s island were incorrect. He said the US Justice Department had proven allegations against him to be unfounded.

Trump further warned that he would send his lawyers after Noah, saying he intended to sue the comedian for “plenty dollars”, while citing past legal actions against media organisations and public figures.

Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, was an American financier and convicted sex offender. Investigations revealed he had ties with several influential figures, and multiple survivors alleged abuse on his private island, which he purchased in 1998.

Noah, a South African-born comedian and political commentator, hosted The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022. He has won multiple awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards, and was named among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.
