‘We’ll prioritise your welfare, families’ needs’ – Tinubu assures service chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has assured members of the Nigerian Armed Forces that their welfare and the well-being of their families will remain a top priority of his administration.

The president also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national unity and security.

Speaking on Friday at an interfaith breaking of fast event attended by the Vice President, members of the service chiefs, and senior government officials, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the armed forces for their sacrifices in protecting the country against terrorism and banditry.

“I assure you, we’ll do everything possible, collectively to ensure that you have no regrets. The welfare and many other opportunities that should be extended to your families will take first priority in our decisions,” the President said.

He noted that the diversity of Nigeria is a strength and praised the armed forces for maintaining national sovereignty despite personal risks and long periods away from their families.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the challenges facing the country, including housing shortages for military personnel, but reassured them that collective efforts would continue to address these issues.

He highlighted economic stabilization and progress, emphasizing that the sacrifices of Nigerians, including those of the armed forces, were not in vain. “We are out of the dark tunnel. We are seeing the daylight and bright light ahead of us,” he said.

In his address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, thanked President Tinubu for the recent approvals for salary increments, improved allowances, equipment procurement, and better accommodations for military personnel.

He praised the President for his support, which he said would enhance operational efficiency, and reaffirmed the armed forces’ loyalty and commitment to defending Nigeria’s democracy.
