The Ondo State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to the prudent management of public resources through the rigorous monitoring of government agencies.

Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, made this known on Wednesday in Akure after the committee’s review of the Auditor-General’s reports on ministries, departments and agencies for 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Ogunwumiju described the exercise as a constitutional responsibility aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability across the state’s public institutions.

He noted that MDAs play a critical role in delivering governance and must remain accountable to ensure that government resources are properly utilised for the benefit of the people.

The lawmaker disclosed that the committee identified some infractions during the review, adding that necessary corrections and sanctions were applied where appropriate, adding that the ongoing scrutiny would help improve governance and ensure that government policies translate into tangible benefits for residents of the state.

Also speaking, a liaison officer in the Office of the Attorney-General, Jimoh Ayodele, disclosed that the exercise would further enhance accountability, urging MDAs to promptly respond to audit queries to facilitate timely reporting.

Western Post gathered that no fewer than 115 MDAs appeared before the committee during the 30-day exercise.
