A fire has destroyed properties worth millions of naira at a feed mill factory in the Podo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred at the factory premises, where flames engulfed a prefabricated building used as a store for keeping materials and other items.
Although the fire caused significant damage to the facility, no casualty was recorded, according to the Oyo State Fire Service.
The Chairman of the state Fire Service, Dr. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
Akinwande said firefighters responded to the emergency and found that the fire had severely affected the prefabricated store upon arriving at the scene.
He added that the personnel successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other buildings and facilities within the factory premises.
According to the chairman, preliminary investigations suggested that the fire might have resulted from a spontaneous reaction involving materials used at the factory. However, he did not identify the materials suspected to have triggered the incident or disclose the estimated value of the damaged properties.
Meanwhile, the fire service urged members of the public and business operators to observe safety precautions when handling and storing combustible materials to prevent similar incidents.
