NDC campaign DG warns opposition against celebrating ADC court judgment

The Director-General of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Campaign Council, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has cautioned opposition parties against celebrating the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abdulkarim said the ruling, which also invalidated the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, should serve as a warning to opposition parties rather than an occasion for celebration.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, on Thursday ruled that the ADC’s Mark-led caretaker committee was illegal, in a case instituted by Nafiu Bala, a former national deputy chairman of the party.

The court also nullified decisions taken by the caretaker committee, including the process that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.

Reacting in a post on X, Abdulkarim said the judgment could have wider implications for opposition parties, arguing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stood to benefit from divisions within the opposition.

“This judgment is a warning, not a win,” he wrote.

“A court has removed the David Mark-led NWC and nullified Atiku’s candidacy. Do not celebrate.

“What was done to one camp today can be done to any of us tomorrow. APC is the real beneficiary.”
