Adeyanju tells Presidency to Verify facts before accusing VDM of fake news

Lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has reacted to claims by the Presidency against popular social critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over a viral audio clip allegedly linked to him.
A video circulating online on Wednesday appeared to show VDM playing a purported audio recording of President Bola Tinubu allegedly declaring his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election and urging opposition leader Peter Obi to withdraw from the race.
The Presidency, through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused VDM of disseminating fake content and called for legal action against him.
Onanuga wrote on X, “This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of egregious abuse of the social media platform.”
Reacting, Adeyanju said the viral clip was doctored and insisted that there was no evidence showing VDM shared such content on any of his verified social media accounts.
According to him, “A simple verification of our client’s verified social media platforms would have confirmed that he neither made nor shared the said audio. It is therefore surprising that adverse comments were made concerning our client without proper verification of the facts.”
Adeyanju further alleged that the incident validates VDM’s concerns about attempts by powerful individuals in government to discredit him because of his outspoken views on public issues.
He called on security agencies to investigate the source of the manipulated audio and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
