Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved a range of welfare packages for personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Commander of the corps, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Friday while parading suspected criminals at the agency’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
Adeleye said the new welfare measures include the enrolment of Amotekun officers and their families into the Ondo State Contributory Health Scheme to improve access to healthcare services.
He added that the governor also approved the issuance of Warrants of Service Enlistment for personnel of the agency pending the completion of the required legal procedures.
According to the commander, the operatives would also benefit from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, in addition to the life insurance policy already available to personnel.
He described the packages as part of efforts by the state government to improve the welfare of officers and boost their commitment to security operations across the state.
Adeleye also disclosed that the corps had deployed 650 operatives to various parts of the state to strengthen security before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
He said special patrols and border surveillance had been intensified, while Amotekun Rangers stationed in forest areas had stepped up operations to prevent attacks by bandits and other criminal elements during the festive period.
