Amotekun arraigns nine over attempted murder, armed robbery in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has arraigned nine suspects before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Akure over alleged offences including attempted murder, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.

The suspects were brought before Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni in four separate cases filed by the agency, with the prosecution seeking their remand pending further legal processes.

Five of the defendants — Johnson Ugwa, Olorunju Dare, Alex Mrwoe, Babajide Ayomide and Sunday Michael — were arraigned over the alleged attempted murder of one Akin Balogun at Saint Lukes Road, Akure, on July 25, 2026.

The prosecution, led by Felix O. Baba, alleged that the suspects conspired to attack the victim and stabbed him in the hand and back with a knife, offences said to be punishable under the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State.

“The defendants conspired to inflict grievous bodily harm on the victim by stabbing him with a knife. A remand application has been filed pending further proceedings,” the prosecutor told the court.

In a separate case, Monday Onah and David Emmanuel were arraigned on charges of conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a locally made firearm. They were accused of robbing a woman identified as Mrs. Onyeka of ₦1.5 million and other valuables at J.P. Camp, Ala-Elefosan, while armed with a gun.

The prosecution further alleged that the duo was arrested with a locally made barrel gun without a valid licence, contrary to the provisions of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act and the Firearms Act.

After listening to the applications, Chief Magistrate Sekoni ordered the remand of the defendants. The attempted murder case was adjourned until August 21, 2026, while the armed robbery case was fixed for August 12, 2026, for further proceedings.
