Anambra govt challenges Obi over ₦2.13bn ecological fund claim
The Anambra State Government has challenged former governor Peter Obi to account for the alleged ₦2.13 billion ecological fund he claimed was left in a First Bank account at the end of his administration in 2014.
The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Law Mefor, said a certified statement obtained from the bank showed that the account cited by Obi was not an ecological fund account and had never contained the amount claimed by the former governor.
Mefor made the disclosure in a statement released on Wednesday through the Anambra New Media X account, titled, “Gov Peter Obi and Record of Public Debt in Anambra: Facts Beyond Propaganda and Lies.”
According to the commissioner, the account, numbered 2018779464, was an Internally Generated Revenue Consolidated Revenue Account.
“We have obtained a certified printout of the account from inception to date. The account is an Internally Generated Revenue Consolidated Revenue Account, not an ecological fund account,” he said.
Mefor added that the account had never recorded ₦2.13 billion either as an inflow or balance since it was opened in 2011.
“From 2011 when the account was opened until date, there has never been any such amount—whether as inflow or balance—in the account,” he said.
He consequently challenged Obi to identify where the former governor said he kept the ecological funds.
