Bello El-Rufai clinches ADC ticket for Kaduna North Reps seat

A member of the House of Representatives, Bello El-Rufai, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general election after winning the party’s primary unopposed.

El-Rufai, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, secured 7,727 votes during the primary election conducted by the ADC, according to a statement issued by the lawmaker on Saturday.

The lawmaker, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC, expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, stakeholders and supporters for what he described as an overwhelming vote of confidence.

He said his emergence as the party’s flag bearer reflected the trust reposed in him by members of the ADC and the people of Kaduna North, pledging to continue serving the constituency diligently.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to emerge unopposed as the flag bearer of the African Democratic Congress for Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the just concluded primary election, with a total of 7,727 votes. I sincerely thank the leadership of the party, delegates, stakeholders, supporters, and the good people of Kaduna North for this overwhelming show of trust and confidence,” he said.

El-Rufai also addressed concerns surrounding his recent departure from the APC, insisting that while he remained in the ruling party, he neither worked for nor financed opposition parties.

According to him, his decision to join the ADC was based on conviction, adding that he would vigorously campaign for the party and its ideals ahead of the 2027 elections.

El-Rufai won the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 general election under the APC before switching allegiance to the ADC.
