Ekiti court arraigns man for allegedly stealing trousers worth N76,000

A 37-year-old man, Tolulope Agboola, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three pairs of trousers worth N76,000 from a supermarket.

Agboola, whose address was not provided, was charged with one count of stealing over the alleged incident at Nao Supermarket, Ado-Ekiti, on September 11.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant allegedly stole two pairs of jogger trousers valued at N60,000 and a pair of jeans worth N16,000.

Oriyomi said the alleged offence occurred around 7:00pm, adding that the supermarket’s CCTV footage captured the incident and subsequently aided the defendant’s arrest.

The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Agboola pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel, Ogunrinde Abiola, applied for bail and assured the court that his client would not abscond.

Ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adosun adjourned the case until October 30 for further hearing.
