Ekiti monarch returns amid jubilation after overseas medical treatment

Residents of Ikole in Ekiti State turned out in large numbers on Monday to celebrate the return of the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Adewumi Fasiku, after he spent several years abroad receiving medical treatment.

The monarch received a rousing welcome from traditional chiefs, residents and well-wishers, who thronged major roads in the ancient town to celebrate his homecoming.

Oba Fasiku had been away from the kingdom for an extended period while undergoing specialised medical care overseas, raising expectations among residents for his eventual return.

Despite his absence, the traditional administration of the community remained intact under the leadership of the Elekole-in-Council, with senior chiefs overseeing palace affairs and ensuring stability in the kingdom.

Addressing the gathering at the palace, the monarch expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life and restoring his health, while appreciating the people of Ikole-Ekiti for their steadfast prayers and support throughout his period of treatment.

“I sincerely thank God for granting me good health and safe return. I also appreciate the people of Ikole-Ekiti for their prayers, patience and unwavering support during my absence,” the monarch said.

Oba Fasiku also commended members of the Elekole-in-Council for sustaining the traditional institution while he was away, describing their commitment as instrumental to the peace and unity enjoyed in the community.

He pledged to work tirelessly for the progress of Ikole-Ekiti, saying his return heralds a new phase of peace, unity and development, with renewed efforts to attract improved healthcare services and other socio-economic projects to the town.
