Kyari’s election as IFAD chair to strengthen global food security, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu says the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, will provide effective leadership as the new Chairperson of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Kyari was unanimously elected on Tuesday to lead the 49th Governing Council of IFAD, the organisation’s highest decision-making body.

In a statement on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga , the President described Kyari’s election as a strong endorsement of his leadership capacity and the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s agricultural and food security sector.

According to the President, Kyari’s emergence comes at a critical time, as the world grapples with growing food insecurity challenges. He said he is confident that the minister will strengthen IFAD’s relevance and expand its impact in addressing global food security concerns.

Tinubu also wished Kyari a successful and impactful tenure as he assumes his new international role.
