The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a decisive victory in Saturday’s local council elections in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, with incumbent Chairman Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat and Vice Chairman Mrs. Oluwatoyin Awoniyi-Akerele clinching wins in their respective polling units.

At Ward A, Unit 027 — Chairman Hamzat’s polling unit — APC polled 335 votes, leaving the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with just one and zero votes respectively. Out of 848 registered voters, 344 participated in the election, with 8 votes declared void. Voting at the unit concluded at 3:23 p.m.

Similarly, at Ward B, Unit 023 — the Vice Chairman’s polling station — APC scored another sweeping victory with 249 votes, while PDP and LP managed only one vote each.

Speaking after casting his vote, Chairman Hamzat expressed optimism and praised the peaceful conduct of the election. “As you can see, people are voting, it’s peaceful, and everything is going as planned. I believe, by the special grace of the Almighty God, we are going to come out victorious,” he said.

Responding to concerns about voter apathy, Hamzat explained that the administration’s achievements spurred public participation. “People have seen what the government has done. They’ve enjoyed it and want more. That’s why we’re seeing this massive turnout — they feel it’s important to vote,” he stated.

Reflecting on his administration’s performance, the chairman said his team, inspired by the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda, had executed over 90 road projects, empowered more than 5,000 youths, renovated schools, and equipped healthcare centers. He also highlighted improvements in security and sporting initiatives such as the Ward Boxing Championship.

Vice Chairman Awoniyi-Akerele, after casting her vote, described the atmosphere as peaceful and praised the high turnout. “Party agents are conducting themselves peacefully. I believe we’ve earned the people’s trust and will be re-elected,” she said.

She promised even better performance if returned to office. “We’ll continue the good work of the Usman Hamzat team. Residents can expect to enjoy more dividends of democracy and be satisfied with the government’s delivery,” she concluded.
