Sanwo-Olu votes in Lagos Island, urges residents to embrace civic duty

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday cast his vote at exactly 11:06 a.m. in Lagos Island during the local government elections, urging residents to come out en masse and perform their civic responsibility.

Speaking after casting his vote, the governor expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, noting that he had been monitoring proceedings at various polling units on television before arriving at his own.

“As you can see, everything is okay here apart from the fact that it is a densely populated area — we are in Lagos Island,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Voting is going on well. The officers are on ground, and I have successfully carried out my civic responsibility. The atmosphere is peaceful, and all party agents and observers are present.”

He acknowledged that some polling units experienced minor logistical delays earlier in the day due to transportation issues, but said the challenges had been quickly resolved.

Sanwo-Olu praised the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for managing the process efficiently and commended observers from other states for joining to monitor the elections.

“We are glad that the weather has been peaceful. I expect that Lagosians will take advantage of this to express their civic rights, and that the entire exercise will remain peaceful,” he added.

The governor stressed the importance of grassroots governance, saying that local councils and chairmen play vital roles in Nigeria’s democratic system and must be empowered to deliver.

He concluded by saying local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos are actively aligning with the THEMES+ Agenda and delivering projects that directly impact their communities.
