EFCC operatives monitor LG polls to curb vote buying

Operatives of the Lagos Directorates 1 and 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday joined other law enforcement agencies in monitoring the conduct of the Local Government Elections across Lagos State.

The deployment was part of the Commission’s broader strategy to curb vote buying and ensure strict adherence to Nigeria’s electoral laws.

The monitoring operation was jointly led by CE Michael Nzekwe, Chief of Staff to the EFCC Executive Chairman, and ACE I Ahmed Ghali, acting Director of Lagos Directorate 2. The team observed polling activities in several key areas across the state.

Their presence at polling units underscored the EFCC’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and institutional vigilance during the grassroots electoral process.

Reports from the field revealed that the election was largely peaceful, with voters expressing satisfaction over the EFCC’s active involvement in safeguarding electoral integrity.

Other security agencies on ground also acknowledged the Commission’s collaborative efforts, noting that its involvement helped deter electoral misconduct, particularly vote buying, which has been a recurring concern in past elections.

The EFCC has continued to play a critical role in election monitoring, working alongside relevant stakeholders to uphold democratic standards across the country.
