The Honourable member of Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives representing Afijio, Oyo West, Oyo East, and Atiba federal constituency, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, has pledged to facilitate the establishment of a Federal University in Oyo town.

Hon. Adeyemi made this commitment during a public lecture and colloquium held as part of the coronation activities for the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade II, at the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, on Tuesday.

Earlier, the keynote speaker, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, had advocated for the establishment of a Federal University in Oyo town.

He also recommended the creation of an Alaafin Academy and a palace museum to preserve Oyo’s historical heritage.

Responding to the lecture, Hon. Adeyemi attributed the delay in securing approval for the university to the passing of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.

He explained that progress had been made on the project, awaiting presidential assent before the monarch’s demise.

The lawmaker, however, assured that he would work towards facilitating the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Fiditi, as well as the creation of a museum at the Alaafin’s palace.
