Major shakeup in Nigerian Army as COAS appoints new PSOs, GOCs, commanders

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the redeployment and appointment of senior officers to key command, staff, and instructional positions in a strategic move aimed at enhancing the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness and administrative efficiency.

Army spokesman Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, who announced the changes in a statement on Saturday, described the reshuffle as part of efforts to strengthen leadership structures capable of addressing emerging security challenges across the country.

Key Appointments at Army Headquarters
Among the newly appointed Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters are:

Maj.-Gen. L.A. Fejokwu as Chief of Administration (Army)

Maj.-Gen. G.U. Chibuisi as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs

Maj.-Gen. A.S. Ndalolo as Chief of Training (Army)

Maj.-Gen. O.S. Abai as Chief of Transformation and Innovation

Maj.-Gen. J.H. Abdussalam as Chief of Special Services and Programmes

Maj.-Gen. E.I. Okoro as Military Secretary (Army)

New General Officers Commanding (GOCs)
Key appointments of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) include:

Maj.-Gen. O.T. Olatoye as GOC 82 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force (JTF) South East, Operation UDO KA

Maj.-Gen. E.F. Oyinlola as GOC 3 Division and Commander, Operation SAFE HAVEN

Maj.-Gen. A.G.L. Haruna as GOC 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 JTF North East, Operation HADIN KAI

Maj.-Gen. I.A. Ajose as GOC 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 JTF North West, Operation FANSAN YANMA

Corps Commanders and Training Institutions
Several senior officers were appointed as Corps Commanders, including:

Maj.-Gen. O.C. Ajunwa as Commander, Nigerian Army Armour Corps

Maj.-Gen. H.T. Wesley as Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps

Maj.-Gen. Z.L. Abubakar as Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery

Commandants were also appointed to lead key training institutions:

Maj.-Gen. U.M. Alkali as Commandant, Army War College Nigeria

Maj.-Gen. F.S. Etim as Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry

Maj.-Gen. A.B. Mohammed as Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army

COAS’s Charge to Officers
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede charged the newly appointed officers to bring renewed vigor, dedication, and commitment to their duties, particularly in sustaining the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing troop welfare as they assume their new roles.
