Makinde, Obasanjo hold high-profile meeting ahead of 2027 polls

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they discussed key national issues ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting was also attended by former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, underscoring the high-profile nature of the consultation.

Makinde disclosed the visit in a post on his official social media pages, saying the discussions centred on issues of national importance as Nigeria gradually approaches another electoral cycle.

While the governor did not reveal the specific matters discussed, he described the meeting as significant, noting that it came at a crucial moment in the country’s political history.

The visit comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments by major political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general election.

In his post, Makinde expressed appreciation to Obasanjo for what he described as the former president’s wise counsel, saying the elder statesman’s guidance remained invaluable.

“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election,” the governor wrote.

“We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” he added.
